Beginner’s Guide:Possible Starting Pathway (w.i.p.)
Introduction
This is a guide designed for newcomers and those unfamiliar with or know nothing to the AMS&CEPC development project. By reading the following text, you can find a relatively quick path to get involved in the project and practical research. In other words, this serves as a kind of beginner’s guide.

Possible Learning Pathway
First and foremost, theoretical knowledge in mathematics and physics is essential. These foundational theories form the basis for future work, whether in theoretical research, data analysis, or hardware development, although the focus of study may vary depending on the specific direction. The section ‘Prerequisite Knowledge Learning‘ below includes a checklist and recommendation of required and optional theoretical knowledge, along with corresponding exercises and courses for reference and study.
The CERN ROOT software is a framework developed by CERN and is central to high-energy physics research. Every day, thousands of physicists use ROOT for data analysis or simulations. You can find more information about ROOT. Therefore, in addition to the theoretical knowledge in mathematics and physics, you also need to learn how to use ROOT for your future work. You can also find the learning path and reference materials for ROOT in the section ‘Prerequisite Knowledge Learning‘.
Prerequisite Knowledge Learning
This link provides the necessary prerequisite theoretical knowledge (including mathematics, physics and programming knowledge), reference books, and courses. Please click here .
Here are the prepared exercises (including practice problems, reflection questions, and solutions). After completing a portion of the above content, you can use them for self-assessment, track your progress, and check your understanding.
These exercises are part of a series prepared for beginners in the research group. The exercises mainly cover the essential software such as ROOT and provide an introduction to particle detectors. The reference books for particle detectors in these exercises are: 粒子探测技术,汪晓莲,李澄,绍明,陈宏芳 and Particle Detectors, Claus Grupen and Boris Shwartz.
Prepared E-materials
The partly materials in this Starting Page and the Prerequisite Knowledge Learning Page have been uploaded to Google Drive . These include some e-books and materials, as well as optional but useful courseware.
Additionally, CERN has provided the ROOT introductory course materials and some lecture notes, slides, and exercises from the ROOT Summer School .
Here are also the materials from the 2024 summer workshop on how to analyze data in Python using PyROOT or Scikit-HEP tools. This workshop is primarily aimed at HEP beginners who want to quickly grasp the basic knowledge of the software, as well as non-expert self-learners who wish to ensure no gaps in their knowledge. These materials are optional and not as important as the materials mentioned above.
